Planning a Lisbon proposal sounds easy until you have to choose the exact spot. The viewpoint that looks perfect on Instagram might be packed when you arrive, while a quieter location you hadn't considered could give you a much more private moment, and better photographs afterwards.
I’m a local photographer in Lisbon with more than ten years of experience photographing couples and weddings, and I’ve photographed proposals at São Jorge Castle, the Alfama viewpoints, Belém, Lisbon's gardens, on the Tagus River and across the water in Cacilhas, as well as along the coast towards Cascais and Sintra.
So the locations in this guide aren't here simply because they're pretty. I'll tell you which places I actually recommend, when I would choose somewhere else, and what you should know about crowds, privacy and photography before you arrive with a ring hidden in your pocket.
For the famous Lisbon views, I'd start with Alfama or São Jorge Castle. The Botanical Garden is one of my favourites if privacy is a priority. And if you'd rather have cliffs or the Atlantic behind you, it's worth looking beyond Lisbon itself towards Cascais and the Sintra coast.
I’ve also included a few of my favourite proposal locations just outside Lisbon, including Sintra, Cascais and Cacilhas. Many couples visit these places during a Lisbon trip, and they’re worth considering if you’re looking for something different from the city’s viewpoints and historic streets.
How to choose the right place for your Lisbon proposal
Before you plan a proposal in Lisbon and pick the prettiest location on this list, think about the person you're proposing to.
I've photographed proposals at some of Lisbon's best-known viewpoints, and one thing matters more than almost anything else: does your partner want an audience?
A busy miradouro can be brilliant for a couple who loves the energy of Lisbon and doesn't mind strangers cheering afterwards. For somebody who would hate twenty phones turning towards them when you get down on one knee, I would choose a garden, a quieter Alfama street or another location where we have more control.
I also wouldn't choose a proposal spot based on sunset alone. Beautiful light isn't very useful if the terrace is so crowded that I can't photograph you discreetly without giving away the surprise.
Throughout this guide, I’ll give you my actual recommendation for each place, including the locations I think are beautiful but wouldn't personally put at the top of my list.
Best places for a proposal in Lisbon
São Jorge Castle
A proposal in a castle? That is what many people dream of! Castelo de São Jorge is a stunning location for a surprise proposal, with amazing views over Lisbon and the Tagus River from the terrace and castle walls. The time just before sunset is magical here!
In summer, São Jorge Castle is open until 9 PM, and there are usually fewer people visiting in the evening. So, get ready to drop to one knee with Lisbon in the background! You can even climb the towers for higher viewpoints.
My favourite proposal spot is actually along one of the quieter castle walls under the trees. Many couples initially picture the terrace or eastern walkway because of the views, but it can be busy there, and the light is often quite harsh. For the proposal itself, I usually recommend a more private spot along the wall, and afterwards we can head to the terrace and paved walkway for photos with the Lisbon views.
For a photoshoot, I recommend booking a minimum of 60 minutes to capture the proposal and allow time for some relaxed engagement photos afterwards. If you'd like to combine the castle with parts of Alfama, 90 minutes is ideal.
Best for: panoramic views over Lisbon with quieter proposal spots nearby
When I'd go: around 7 or 7:30 PM in summer, or around 4 PM in the winter months
What I'd want you to know: São Jorge Castle has uneven steps, cobblestones and some fairly steep sections, so this is not the place for impractical shoes. There are also lots of peacocks roaming around, and don’t be surprised if one decides to inspect your proposal from close by. There is a €17 entrance fee, and you can buy tickets online to skip the queue.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Did you know Lisbon was built on seven hills? That means you’ll be climbing uphill occasionally, but it also means there are some stunning viewpoints. Lisbon has several popular miradouros, and they can make a gorgeous setting for a proposal.
One of the best-known is Miradouro de Santa Luzia in Alfama. It’s covered in azulejo tiles, with a pergola, lots of greenery and beautiful bougainvillea in the background. Miradouro das Portas do Sol is right next to it and offers a wider view over the orange rooftops of Alfama.
With their popularity come the crowds. I often help arrange sunrise proposals here, usually between 7 and 8 AM depending on the season, so you can have the moment without lots of people around. Even early in the morning, though, you might find a few other photographers there, whether they’re tourists capturing the sunrise or professionals doing shoots.
From around 8:30 AM onwards, both viewpoints start getting busier, with peak times during the afternoon and evening. You’ll find vendors, musicians and plenty of people stopping to enjoy the views.
Personally, I think Santa Luzia is the prettier setting for the proposal itself, with the tiles, pergola and greenery around you. Portas do Sol has the better panoramic view, though, especially when there are cruise ships docked along the river. As the two viewpoints are right next to each other, we can easily use both during the photos afterwards.
Best for: iconic views over Alfama
When I'd go: set your alarm for a private moment, or embrace the applause in the evening as it will be packed with tourists
What I'd want you to know: later in the day, Santa Luzia can get very packed and the space itself is quite narrow. For that reason, I don't normally use it for portraits in the afternoon or evening, simply because there isn't much room to work. The light can also be very harsh during the middle of the day.
Cobblestone streets in Alfama
Alfama is Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood, filled with cobblestone streets, colourful houses and plenty of azulejo tiles. It gets busiest around the castle and the miradouros during the day, but behind the castle there are quiet little streets that can work beautifully for a surprise proposal.
We live on the edge of the neighbourhood, and I know the maze of Alfama’s streets like the back of my hand. I’m always happy to help choose a spot that feels private but still gives you that unmistakable Lisbon atmosphere. I usually prefer finding a quieter corner for the proposal itself, then using the busier streets and viewpoints afterwards once the surprise is over. I've written a full guide with tips with my favourite locations for an Alfama proposal!
Best for: an intimate proposal away from the busiest tourist areas
When I'd go: early morning will be the quietest, but there are also hidden alleys that stay relatively peaceful throughout the day
What I'd want you to know: the small streets are full of colour, tiles and interesting little corners, which make beautiful backdrops. After the proposal, we can still head towards the more famous parts of Alfama for photos without putting any pressure on the proposal itself.

Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto has a stunning view over the city. From here, you can see downtown Lisbon, the castle and the river in the distance. Just like the viewpoints in Alfama, it draws a crowd later in the day.
The viewpoint has two levels. The upper level often has a seasonal market, as well as a popular kiosk and a beautiful fountain. The lower level closes at night and has a smaller kiosk. It’s usually quieter down here, although if you propose on the lower terrace, the people above may still become your audience!
After a proposal here, we can explore the streets of Bairro Alto for your engagement session. Some parts feel very local, with tiled houses and colourful streets, and we can also continue towards Miradouro de Santa Catarina or stop by the Bica funicular for a few very Lisbon-style photos.
Best for: a proposal overlooking the city
When I'd go: arrive early in the morning for soft light and fewer people
What I'd want you to know: São Pedro de Alcântara is beautiful, but it’s not a secret spot. I often arrange the proposal in the nearby Botanical Garden and take pictures at this viewpoint afterwards, without stressing about crowds or drawing attention.
The parks in Lisbon
Lisbon’s parks are one of the best choices if you prefer to propose somewhere quiet. It may surprise you, but this is where I photograph most proposals, as many couples prefer a little privacy. And the beauty is that there are plenty of gardens and parks to choose from.
For a quiet proposal in a park, I recommend the following options:
- Botanical Garden of Lisbon (paid, my favourite spot!)
- Jardim da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (free)
- Estufa Fria (paid, with greenhouses and plenty of quiet corners)
- Jardim Botânico Tropical in Belém (paid, usually very quiet)
- Tapada das Necessidades (free, a local park with a quiet miradouro nearby)
- Jardim Botânico da Ajuda (paid, with very peaceful surroundings)
Chances are you’ll have the proposal spot mostly to yourselves, which is perfect when privacy matters. Within the parks, there are lovely areas with cactus gardens, palm trees, flowers and ponds. Depending on where we go, you might even spot ducks, peacocks, tortoises or cats!
The Botanical Garden is the park I use most often for proposals. There are enough different areas that we can usually find a private corner for the proposal itself and then move around afterwards for completely different-looking photos.
Best for: couples looking for a private place to get engaged in Lisbon
When I'd go: when the park opens or during the final hour before closing, when it’s usually quietest and the light is also lovely for photographs
What I'd want you to know: some of the paid gardens require permission for commercial photography, but I’m more than happy to arrange this for you in advance.
Belém Tower
Lisbon has plenty of famous landmarks, and Belém Tower is a popular spot to pop the question. The tower sits on the banks of the Tagus River and can be reached via a footbridge. But you don't have to enter the tower to find the best proposal spot!
The outside is where the magic happens, and most of my couples have opted for a riverside proposal. Even around sunset, this area tends to be quieter, and you can have the tower in the background. Another spot I love is the footpath leading towards the tower, although this area is busier as most visitors follow this route.
Sunrise and early morning are the best times to avoid the crowds altogether for both options. You can find more examples in this Belém Proposal Guide.
Belém has plenty of other beautiful locations, so I often continue with an engagement session afterwards. We can include places such as the Jerónimos Monastery, the river and some of the nearby parks. I love ending the session at Pastéis de Belém, where you can celebrate with the original Portuguese custard tarts.
Best for: an iconic backdrop for your Lisbon proposal
When I'd go: early morning or sunset
What I'd want you to know: you don't need to enter Belém Tower for the proposal. I actually prefer using the tower as the backdrop from the riverside, which also gives us much more freedom to choose the exact spot and continue with photos around Belém afterwards.
During a sunset cruise
One of the most romantic ways to plan your surprise proposal is on the water. Most river cruises depart from Belém or Alcântara, and many operators offer a welcome drink and some snacks. You can book a cruise during the day, but I think it’s extra special at sunset.
On average, boat trips on the Tagus River last around two hours. You’ll sail past Lisbon’s neighbourhoods and enjoy views of the Ponte 25 de Abril. In summer, you might even spot dolphins, as they sometimes make their way into the river!
I have photographed proposals on boats before, and during the cruise, I keep my mouth sealed and blend in with the other passengers. We usually inform the captain beforehand so they can slow down or pause near one of the best Lisbon backdrops when the sun goes down. It’s definitely a unique proposal, and it can be lots of fun when the other passengers realise what is happening!
Best for: a sunset proposal on the river with Lisbon and the 25 de Abril bridge in the background
When I'd go: sunset
What I'd want you to know: boats move, the wind can pick up, and we have less control over the exact background than we would on land. I usually coordinate with the captain beforehand so we can choose the best possible moment and position. Shared cruises normally have other passengers on board, while private boats are available if privacy is important.
Praça do Comércio
If you love architecture and wide-open river views, you might like Praça do Comércio as your proposal backdrop. I have photographed many couples here, although I haven't photographed a proposal here yet.
Early in the morning, the square is very quiet, and there are so many lovely spots for photos. You could propose in front of the Arco da Rua Augusta or by the river at Cais das Colunas. Afterwards, the arches around the square are perfect for engagement photos, and we can easily continue through downtown Lisbon or towards Alfama or Bairro Alto.
Best for: city atmosphere, architecture and river views
When I'd go: early in the morning; later in the day, it's much busier with tourists and local commuters
What I'd want you to know: one of the things I like about Praça do Comércio is how much variety we have within a small area. After the proposal, we can use the river, the yellow arcades and the surrounding downtown streets for very different-looking photos without travelling anywhere else.

Beautiful proposal locations just outside Lisbon
There are also some beautiful proposal locations outside Lisbon, including Óbidos, Sintra and Cascais. Cascais is around 40 minutes from Lisbon, while Sintra is around an hour away.
They can still work well if you are staying in Lisbon, but you will need to allow for travel time and, in some cases, additional photography or entrance fees. My packages outside of Lisbon start at €320 for 60 minutes.
I have written some in-depth location-specific articles if you would like to know more about them:
Cacilhas
You may not have heard the name Cacilhas before, as it’s the area just across the river from Lisbon. You can reach it with a short ferry ride from Cais do Sodré, and many visitors come here to eat at Ponto Final or watch the sunset over Lisbon.
To be honest, it has one of the best sunset views over Lisbon. It does get busy around sunset, though, so it’s not necessarily the best time if you prefer privacy. What has worked well for my proposals so far is having the big moment in the little park around one to two hours before sunset, then taking more engagement photos later in the evening. You could even have a reservation at Ponto Final in between while I wait nearby for the next part of the shoot.
There are some really pretty areas along the river, including the park and footbridge. It’s good to know that this part of Cacilhas is undergoing a lot of redevelopment, though, and I’m sure it will continue to change over the next few years. Many of the old waterfront buildings have already been torn down and are waiting to be replaced by new developments.
Further towards the Ponte 25 de Abril, you’ll still find more abandoned buildings, with graffiti, broken roofs and peeling paint. I actually love this kind of scenery, so if you’re interested in a moodier, more raw engagement session afterwards, I’m definitely up for it!
Best for: beautiful views towards Lisbon
When I'd go: the hours before and during sunset
What I'd want you to know: Cacilhas is changing quite quickly because of the redevelopment along the waterfront, so some locations you may have seen in older photos no longer look the same. I always check the area before a shoot, and we can choose between the prettier riverfront spots or the more industrial side depending on the look you want.
Cascais
Cascais is a much-loved beach town close to Lisbon, around 40 minutes away by train, taxi or car. There are some unique places to drop to one knee, although the town centre and Cascais beaches can get pretty busy later in the day.
So far, I’ve photographed all of my Cascais proposals in front of Casa de Santa Maria, with the lighthouse beside the water as the backdrop. It’s a beautiful spot for a romantic proposal, especially around sunrise when the light is soft and the area is still quiet.
Nearby, Parque Marechal Carmona is usually much quieter, and you can use the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães as a backdrop. The architecture is beautiful, and there is even a tiny beach in front of it. The park itself has a pretty tiled chapel, and the trees give us lovely soft light for photographs.
If you propose near the lighthouse, we can easily include all three areas during the engagement session afterwards: the waterfront, the museum and Parque Marechal Carmona. This gives you quite a lot of variety without needing to travel anywhere else.
But there are other options! You can walk further along the coast towards Boca do Inferno, where the waves often crash against the rocky cliffs. It can be busier here, and access sometimes depends on the weather and opening times, so I wouldn’t rely on it as the only proposal location.
The beaches are another option, although they can be very busy in summer. A little further away, Praia do Guincho gives you a completely different setting with a wide beach and Atlantic Ocean views. It’s a famous surf beach, though, and it can get very windy.
Best for: lots of variety, with ocean views, beaches, greenery, a tiled chapel and beautiful historic architecture
When I'd go: early in the morning to avoid the day-trippers and beachgoers, or around sunset if you don’t mind it being busier
What I'd want you to know: 60 minutes is usually perfect for a proposal by the lighthouse followed by photos around Parque Marechal Carmona and Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães. If you’d also like to include the coastline and Boca do Inferno, I recommend 90 minutes.
Cabo da Roca and the Atlantic coast
Cabo da Roca is an incredible choice if you prefer cliffs and ocean views. The cape is the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and continental Europe, with a lighthouse and some stunning hiking trails nearby. If you’re an outdoorsy couple, this might be the perfect spot for you!
A lot of people take day trips from Lisbon to Sintra, followed by Cabo da Roca and Cascais, so this is a very popular stop. I’ve even seen tour buses arriving around 8 AM. For that reason, a proposal at Cabo da Roca probably won’t be completely private unless you come for sunrise.
The sunset here can be fantastic, with beautiful views along the Portuguese coast. But if you prefer somewhere wilder and potentially quieter, you can hike towards Praia da Ursa. It’s one of our favourite beaches in Portugal because it still feels so rugged and untouched. Sunrise will generally be quieter, although sunset can be beautiful here too.
You have a couple of options for the proposal itself. If you want the beach behind you without hiking all the way down, there are viewpoints along the trail. Another option is proposing on the beach itself. The path down is steep with lots of loose stones, so you definitely need sturdy shoes. From the viewpoint, it takes around 30–40 minutes to reach the beach, and remember that you’ll have to climb all the way back up again!
A word of warning here. I once waited on the beach for a sunrise proposal, but the couple never made it down. One of them developed vertigo on the trail and they decided to turn back. We did the proposal another day in Lisbon’s Botanical Garden instead, but if you know your partner doesn’t like heights or difficult hikes, Praia da Ursa might not be the right place for your proposal.
Best for: Atlantic views and wild beaches
When I'd go: early in the morning at Cabo da Roca; Praia da Ursa can also be beautiful before sunset
What I'd want you to know: weather conditions along this part of the coast can change quickly, especially in winter. I always recommend having a plan B in case strong wind, rain or low clouds make the original location impractical.
Sintra palaces
I guess I’ve left one of the most popular and romantic options until last, and that’s because a proposal at one of the Sintra palaces needs a little more planning. The two places most people have heard of are Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. Both are incredibly beautiful and fantastic for proposals, but they’re also very busy, and you even need to book a time slot to visit.
But there are other options! One of my favourite palaces in Sintra is the Park and Palace of Monserrate. Although it’s not entirely a hidden gem anymore, it gets far fewer visitors than Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. The palace is currently undergoing renovations, but from spring 2027 I can’t wait to photograph a surprise proposal here.
The most important thing to know is that professional photography at the Parques de Sintra monuments requires permission. For professional photo sessions, a €150 heritage image usage fee may apply, which allows up to six people to enter for the shoot, including the photographer. Photography is not allowed inside the palace buildings.
Quinta da Regaleira is different. It is not managed by Parques de Sintra, and professional photography is forbidden. I contacted them directly about this before, so unfortunately this isn’t somewhere I can photograph your proposal. I have had couples propose there by themselves and then book me for an engagement session in Lisbon afterwards, which is a good alternative if Quinta da Regaleira is special to you.
Here’s a quick overview of the main Sintra options:
- Pena Palace: the busiest, especially around the palace itself. The gardens are much quieter, and I particularly like the area around the Valley of the Lakes and the Chalet of the Countess of Edla for a more private proposal. The park is huge, so leave plenty of time as you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
- Quinta da Regaleira: also extremely busy, especially around the main building and the Initiation Well. Some areas of the gardens are quieter, but professional photography is not allowed.
- Monserrate Palace: much quieter because it’s a little further from Sintra town. The palace terrace is beautiful, but remember to explore the gardens too. There is even a hidden chapel! The palace is currently undergoing renovations, so check the latest situation before planning your proposal.
- Queluz Palace: because it sits between Lisbon and Sintra, many visitors overlook it completely. There are beautiful rooms and gardens, usually without the same crowds as Pena or Regaleira.
- Sintra National Palace: right in the town centre, so the square gets very busy during the day. For a proposal or photos in front of the palace, I’d go early in the morning when Sintra is still quiet. This also gives you a different option from arranging a professional shoot within one of the paid palace grounds.
There are many more options around Sintra, and I highly recommend reading my detailed guide if you’re seriously thinking about proposing here. There are more palaces, beautiful beaches and little seaside towns that can make a proposal in Portugal unforgettable.
The best time to propose in Lisbon
There isn’t one perfect time for every marriage proposal. It really depends on the location, how much privacy you want and the time of year.
- Sunrise and early morning: best for popular places such as Miradouro de Santa Luzia, Portas do Sol, Praça do Comércio and the Cascais lighthouse when you want fewer people around.
- Sunset: can work really well at São Jorge Castle, especially in summer when it stays open later and the crowds start to thin. It's also my favourite time for a boat proposal, Cacilhas and the Atlantic coast. The light can be beautiful, but these locations are not necessarily quiet at sunset.
- Gardens and parks: more flexible during the day because there is often plenty of shade, although opening and closing times need to be considered.
- Weekdays: generally work better than weekends if privacy matters, particularly at the most famous viewpoints and coastal locations.
- Winter: sunset comes much earlier and some attractions close earlier too, so we need to plan the timing carefully.
- Exposed locations: places such as Cabo da Roca, Praia da Ursa and Praia do Guincho can be very windy, so weather matters just as much as the light.
I don’t automatically recommend sunset just because it has the prettiest light. A beautiful golden hour isn’t much help if the viewpoint is packed, and you’re hoping for a private proposal!

Hiring a Lisbon proposal photographer

Yes, it’s completely normal to hire a photographer for a surprise proposal, and most of the couples I work with want the moment captured without their partner suspecting a thing.
I’ve been photographing weddings throughout Europe for more than ten years, and I now specialise in proposals in Lisbon. I can help you choose the right location and time and work out exactly where you need to stand. Then I’ll keep out of sight until the big moment.
I usually photograph the proposal itself and then give you a little time to enjoy what just happened before we continue with an engagement session. Depending on the location, we can stay nearby or explore another part of Lisbon together afterwards.
If you’re not sure where to propose yet, that’s absolutely fine. Tell me what kind of setting you have in mind and whether privacy is important, and I’ll help you narrow it down.
How I help you plan your proposal in Lisbon
People usually come to me in one of two ways: they either book a proposal package online or contact me first. If you already know where you want to propose and how long you want the session to be, you can definitely go ahead and book. But if you still have questions, or you’re unsure about some of the details, I’ll happily help fill in the gaps.
Once we’ve decided on the location, date and time, we’ll discuss the logistics. You’ll receive my WhatsApp number, which we’ll use on the day of the proposal. I’ll also ask you for a photo of the two of you, so I know who to look out for.
On the day itself, you can share your live location with me on WhatsApp. This means I can see when you’re getting close without us having to text back and forth and risk giving away the surprise. We can also agree on a hand signal, so I know when the moment is about to happen, and I’ll discreetly capture the moment from nearby.
If we’re planning an outdoor proposal where the weather could cause problems, we’ll also discuss a backup option beforehand. That way, you’re not trying to come up with Plan B while hiding a ring in your pocket!
After the proposal, I’ll give you a little private time together, and yes, I carry tissues! If you’ve added bubbles to your package, I’ll have those ready too. Then we can take some time for a engagement session around your chosen location.
Within a few days (I always aim for 48 hours), you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can choose your favourite photographs.
Lisbon proposal photography packages
I offer three proposal photography packages in Lisbon, depending on how much time you’d like to have together. Every package includes help with planning, photography of the proposal itself and professionally edited photographs afterwards.
If you simply want the big moment captured followed by a few photos together, a shorter session may be all you need. If you’d like to explore more of Lisbon afterwards, or you’re planning somewhere such as Sintra or Cascais where getting around takes a little longer, I recommend allowing more time.
You can book your package directly below, or contact me first if you’re not sure which option is right for your plans.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the best place to propose in Lisbon?
There are many incredible proposal spots in Lisbon. For privacy, my favourite is the Botanical Garden of Lisbon. If you want iconic Lisbon views, São Jorge Castle and the Alfama viewpoints are beautiful choices, while a sunset cruise works wonderfully if you prefer the river. The best spot really depends on the atmosphere you want and how important privacy is to you.
What is the quietest proposal location in Lisbon?
The parks and gardens are usually my first choice when privacy is important, and this is actually where I photograph many of my proposals. The Botanical Garden is a favourite because there are lots of different areas where we can find a quiet spot for the big moment and take more photos afterwards.
Is sunrise worth it for a Lisbon proposal?
If you have your heart set on one of Lisbon’s famous viewpoints, yes! Viewpoints such as Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol can be wonderfully quiet early in the morning but completely different a few hours later. You don’t need to wake up at sunrise for every location, though, and I’ll help you choose a time that makes sense for your plans.
Can I propose at sunset without large crowds?
Sometimes, but sunset is one of the busiest times at Lisbon’s popular viewpoints. If privacy is important, I would normally choose a quieter location rather than picking somewhere just because the sunset light is beautiful. São Jorge Castle, a boat on the Tagus and some riverside locations can work particularly well later in the day.
How much does a Lisbon proposal photographer cost?
My Lisbon proposal photography packages currently start from €240. The price depends mainly on how much time you’d like together and whether you want a short session around one location or more time to explore Lisbon afterwards.
Can you arrange champagne or flowers for the proposal?
Yes! Flowers and bubbles are both available as add-ons to your proposal package. I can have them ready for you at the right moment, so you don’t have to carry anything around or risk giving away the surprise.
How far in advance should I book my proposal photographer?
It’s always best to book as soon as you know your date, particularly if you want a specific time around sunrise or sunset. That said, proposals aren’t always planned months ahead! If I still have availability, I’m also happy to help with more last-minute plans.
How long should I book for proposal photos?
For most Lisbon locations, 60 minutes gives us enough time to photograph the proposal and take relaxed engagement photos afterwards. I recommend 90 minutes if you want more variety, would like to explore several areas or your chosen location involves more walking and travelling.
Do you offer proposal photoshoots outside Lisbon?
Yes! I photograph proposals throughout Portugal, including places such as Sintra, Cascais, Porto and the Algarve. If you’re planning something further away from Lisbon, contact me with your date and location, and I’ll create a custom quote for you.
What should we wear for our Lisbon proposal photos?
Wear something that feels like you! You can absolutely dress up for the occasion, but keep Lisbon’s cobblestones, hills and uneven surfaces in mind when choosing your shoes.
If you want to wear heels for the proposal, you could also bring a comfortable pair for walking between locations afterwards.
Can family and friends join the proposal?
Of course. Just let me know beforehand so we can plan where everyone needs to be without ruining the surprise. Depending on the location, they can either wait nearby or join you immediately afterwards for some photographs.
What happens if it rains on the day?
For outdoor proposals, I always recommend having a backup plan. We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and, depending on the location, can adjust the timing or choose an alternative spot if the weather is likely to cause problems. You can find more information in the Terms and Conditions.
Plan your Lisbon proposal with me
So, where would you choose to propose in Lisbon? Maybe you love the idea of a quiet garden, a castle with views over the city, or a sunset proposal by the river.
There are plenty of beautiful options, but the most important thing is choosing a place that feels right for the two of you. And if you’re still not sure, that’s absolutely fine! Helping you choose the location and plan the surprise is part of what I do.
I’ll help you work out the best time, location and logistics, then stay discreetly out of sight until the big moment. Afterwards, we can take some time for engagement photos while you enjoy the fact that you’re officially engaged!
Ready to plan your Lisbon proposal?

You bring the ring, and I’ll help with the rest. From choosing the right location and timing to keeping everything discreet on the day, I’ll help you plan a proposal that feels right for the two of you and photograph the moment as it happens.
